Nusa Putra Electrical Engineering Students Illuminate Villages in Sukabumi with Solar Panels

Nusa Putra University Electrical Engineering students provided street lighting for residents of Cicantayan Village, Cicantayan District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, using renewable energy technology.

The lack of street lighting, so that at night the roads are very dark, is a problem faced by the village, which is located quite close to the Nusa Putra University campus.

Therefore, Nusa Putra University Electrical Engineering students class of 2021 carried out community service in Cicantayan Village in the form of providing street lights using solar panels, namely semiconductors that can produce unidirectional electricity or DC (direct current) from sunlight.

The aim of community service by the Nusa Putra University Electrical Engineering students class of 2021 is to fulfill the tridharma of higher education, as well as a form of implementing the role and function of students as agents of change and agents of social control.

“The Nusa Putra University campus really welcomes this community service because it is included in the tridharma of higher education, namely education, research and community service,” said Lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Study Program at Nusa Putra University, Marina Artiyasa as the supervisor of this activity.

According to Marina, the materials used for village street lights are solar panel kits, namely solar panels, batteries, LED lights and sensors in one package so it is not difficult to install.

“Electric poles are used for support. “Then the foundation uses cement, sand and gravel so that it can stand firmly and support the pillars,” he explained.

Marina said that the activity of installing village street lighting at three points near the Village Office was originally planned for three days, but it turned out it could be done in just two days.

“Because there were a lot of students, the task was divided into three places and the residents of Cicantayan village also helped install the street lights,” he said.

Previously, the community service opening activity was carried out in Cicantayan Village on March 18 2022 with remarks from the Chair of the Committee, Ridwan, Deputy Chair of the Electrical Student Association (HME) Muhammad Ramdhani, Marina Artiyasa as supervisor, Secretary of Cicantayan Village and staff and also attended by Electrical Engineering students Nusa Putra University class 21.

In his speech, the Village Secretary of Cicantayan Village said he was very grateful because with the Village street lights for the community, at night the village roads were bright and easily accessible to residents. Residents also welcomed the installation of solar panel lights.

Marina Artiyasa as supervisor also admitted that she was very proud of the community service activities carried out every year by these students. He really hopes that this will be a good basis for learning and that it can continue in the future.

According to him, the Head of the Nusa Putra University Electrical Engineering Study Program, Aryo de Wibowo and other Electrical Engineering lecturers who were unable to attend were very proud to support it, and hoped that this activity would increase the practical experience of Electrical Engineering students.

“So it won’t be awkward anymore if you work in the same field later, because this really leads to the scientific field of Electrical Engineering,” said Marina.

Marina hopes that with this community service event, more villages will be helped by lighting their village roads. Then the students also understand their knowledge better.

“This is the second event, the first was in August last year in the Cibolang Kaler area with the installation of village street lights and until now it is still running well,” concluded Marina.
